Before and after: a kitchen that opens to the living room

Before and after: a kitchen that opens to the living room

In Rambla de Catalunya, one of the main arteries of Barcelona's Eixample, a marriage of Americans fell in love with a flat. His was not a love at first sight. Although the house had a perfect location and a size more than adequate for them, the finishes and distribution did not drive them crazy. But this changed radically after going through the hands of the interior design studio Arquium, which worked the miracle and got the couple to declare eternal love to their home.

As explained by Maribel Fernández, the interior designer at Arquium, the couple wanted to have an open kitchen, "since they like to invite friends and family they want to be able to interact while they are cooking." Said and done. After demolishing a partition, the kitchen opened to the living room, being visually delimited by a floor of hydraulic-inspired tile and a white marble island with a bar for informal meals. The white cabinets and simple lines go unnoticed and we almost forgot that we are in a kitchen, perfectly integrating the space with the rest of the house. Maribel confesses that, although the concept of open kitchen is very typical of the United States, the finishes make it more European. The New and Old World reconciled between these stoves.

This kitchen was completely changed by a reform of the Arquium studio that opened its interior to the rest of the house.

American kitchen

The owners are from the United States and wanted an open kitchen, so they can talk with their guests while they cook and so everyone can participate in the process.

The parquet floor of the house was maintained, restoring the parts that were in poor condition.

The kitchen is now delimited by the island.

Traditional wink

Although the concept of open kitchen is very much of the United States, the interior designer used elements such as hydraulic tile to Europeanize it.

All to the white

White cabinets and straight lines are perfectly integrated into the living room.

Bar Loves

The island has been used to create a bar for informal meals.

The kitchen window serves to illuminate the work area and provides extra ventilation.

Well equipped

The appliances have been paneled to integrate them perfectly.

Triumphal arch

An arch that serves as access to the open kitchen remained standing.
